I'm confused. On one hand from my perspective, the culture in general seems sick, anemic and lost versus pop culture which has commerce on its side, the later seems robust and center of conversation in the nation. Are my feelings about this valid? I'm a product of the great American public school system. I can't write, I can't read, I don't do math well and I'm not even that great of a musician. I admit I'm a lazy fuck, you can read about that on my other blog, but my point is even as far back as the 70's there was public support for public schools. My current job exposes me to the public school system here in the Denver Metro and close range counties. Holy mother... What's going on? According to some, we've made improvements with our schools by offering more choice by creating charter systems and vouchers. Whatever. Most of our friends have home schooled their kids, and are now placing them into the charter program. I've read that the charter program is not a adequate as the old public school model. DPS is reopening a high school here in my neighborhood. Much to my relief, they say there are going to open it as a regular public high school. It didn't take much to destroy part of the school system we grew up in, and it will take a generation to build it a new, under a new interpretation for the up and coming intellectual climate. Young and hungry minds on the other side of the planet are racing toward the future and are going to be a large factor in the contribution of the world culture. This is the race we are now on.
